About O.N. Diagnostics

Our Mission. O.N. Diagnostics was founded in 2005 by Prof. Tony M. Keaveny (UC Berkeley) based on biomedical engineering research conducted at UC Berkeley and UC San Francisco. Our mission is to improve patient outcomes by developing non-invasive and clinically effective diagnostic applications that quantitatively exploit the richness of information in CT scans. Since inception, our approach has been consistent: achieve scientific and technological excellence through rigorous research and validation, combined with the highest industry standards in execution and quality control.

Our Technology. Our initial focus addresses bone health and orthopedics. Our patented and FDA-cleared "virtual stress test" technology combines biomechanical engineering, computational mechanics, and advanced medical image processing to provide diagnostic measures of bone strength for a patient's hip or spine, going beyond a simple bone mineral density (BMD) test. In doing so, we provide a comprehensive clinical assessment, comprised of BMD, bone strength, and fracture risk. With our ability to analyze previously-acquired clinical CT scans as an add-on analysis, without the need for an external calibration phantom, we also eliminate the inconvenience, cost, and radiation exposure of a dedicated bone scan.

Our Collaborators. O.N. Diagnostics is at the leading edge of international research in the clinical assessment of bone. Our technology has been validated and utilized in studies involving many of the top research institutions in the world, all major pharmaceutical companies in the bone field, as well as medical device manufacturers in the orthopaedics field. Our research is widely published in leading biomedical journals and is regularly presented at major international conferences.

Some of our research collaborators include: Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Harvard Medical School, Icelandic Heart Association, Mayo Clinic, National Institutes of Health, Oregon Health and Science University, UC San Francisco, University of Pennsylvania, the University of Maryland and Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. Some of our industry clients with whom we have published studies include: AgNovos Healthcare, Amgen, Eli Lilly, GlaxoSmithKline, J&J, Merck, Novartis, Pfizer.

Our internal research is funded in part by grants from the National Institutes of Health and the Department of Defense.
