Exploiting Clinical CT Scans. VirtuOst can analyze a dedicated CT bone exam, with or without an external calibration phantom, and most commercially available phantoms can be used. However, in order to minimize cost and eliminate any extra radiation exposure, and to maximize patient convenience, VirtuOst may be best applied as an add-on analysis of a previously taken CT exam. That CT exam does not need to have been ordered originally for a bone assessment and typically just needs to include coverage of the hip and/or spine. No special imaging protocol or external calibration phantom is required. VirtuOst's versatility derives in part from the incorporation of our unique, patient-specific phantomless calibration technique. This add-on approach also increases the cost-effectiveness of the primary CT exam.
